KZ ADAMS SCORES 4 TDs in Gray Collegiate's Playoff win

Posted

The 2nd ranked Gray Collegiate football team won its 1st round playoff matchup against St. Joseph’s Catholic School Friday night at Midlands Sports Complex.
Running back KZ Adams providing the bulk of the scoring en route to a 47-22 final score.
Gray Collegiate quarterback Tre Robinson connected with Russell Brunson on a 36-yard strike for the War Eagles’ 1st score.
Adams rushed for the team’s 2nd touchdown on a 3rd and goal play in the 2nd quarter.
St. Joseph’s tied the game with 14 unanswered points.  Another Adams touchdown run on a 1st and goal from the 6-yard line put the War Eagles up 21-14, a lead they never relinquished.
Gray Collegiate's defense shut down St. Joseph’s triple option offense with multiple tackles for losses. This forced the Knights out of their usual game plan and never allowing them to put together sustained drives.
The defense even scored, with Kamaru Johnson recovering a Knights fumble and running it all the way back for a touchdown.
The War Eagles' offense, while dependent on Adams’ 4 rushing touchdowns, also got touchdown receptions from Brunson and Tory Kelly, and enough variation in the play calling to keep the Knights off balance throughout the contest.
It was Adams’ game on this night, however. His 4th quarter touchdown was even set up by his own long pass reception that positioned the offense on the St. Joseph’s 5-yard line where he ran it in on the next play.
The Knights scored late in the game clock.
Gray Collegiate (7-0) advanced to the second round of the playoffs next Friday against Christ Church in West Columbia.
