After losing for the 1st time in 2 years at Lexington County Baseball Stadium, the Savannah Bananas resumed its success there Wednesday night.
Savannah defeated the Lexington County Blowfish 9-3 to drop the home team to 4-3 in the 2nd half of the Coastal Plain League season.
The loss spoiled a winnable effort by Lexington County starter Shane Connolly. Through 6 innings, he struck out 8 batters and received run support from Gilbert High graduate Trace Whetsell with 2 RBI and All-Star catcher James McConnon with an RBI and 3 hits.
Jacob Rye relieved Connolly in the top 7th and Savannah rallied for 3 runs to claim a 4-3 lead. The Bananas (3-2) scored 5 runs in the 8th, 3 off reliever Bryan Callady, to take command of the game.
The 2 teams will meet again Thursday at Grayson Stadium in Savannah. It's part of a "Split Squad Thursday" as one Blowfish team will travel while the others will remain in Lexington for the 2nd exhibition game of the season against the Catawba Valley All-Stars.
