LEXINGTON COUNTY BLOWFISH - Blowfish beaten by Bacon in 7 innings

Posted

After opening the season with a bang, the Lexington County Blowfish opened the Southern Summerball Series Friday on a sobering note.
The Macon Bacon routed the Blowfish 16-4 in 7 innings. In picking up its first win of the season, the Bacon resembled the Blowfish's offense the 1st 2 nights by pounding out 15 hits and posting its most runs in 3 seasons at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
The Bacon also improved to 12-5 all-time at the stadium.
Macon jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 2 innings. Paul Labriola was responsible for 6 of its runs allowed in 1 2/3 innings, including a 2-run home run by Robert Brooks during a 5-run 2nd inning by the Bacon.
It was the 1st of 4 home runs hit by Macon. In the 4th inning against reliever Robert Petit Jr., Cole Gambrill had a sole home run and Josh Hood drove in 3 runs with a blast over the rightfield wall to go up 11-1.
Brennan Malone continued his hot hitting with a 2-run homer in the bottom 4th. After Macon made it 12-3 following an RBI single by Cassius Young, Tatem Levins had a solo home run to bring Lexington County to within 12-4.
Macon capitalized off wild pitches by the Blowfish to score 4 runs in the Top 7th. Lexington was held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, leading to the game stoppage under the mercy rule.
Chace Harris struck out 5 in 3 innings to pick up the victory for Macon (1-2).
For the 3rd consecutive game, fans were not allowed inside the stadium. The Blowfish continue to appeal to the Governor's Office to grant them an exemption as a "spectator sport".
Lexington County (2-1, 0-1) closes out its home stand at 7:05 pm Saturday against another Georgia nemesis, the Savannah Bananas. The Bananas (2-0) are 18-5 all-time at the stadium.
