The first preseason media luncheon for the Lexington County Blowfish saw 2019 visionary founder of the Lexington County Chili Cookoff John Clinger and co-founder Bill Shanahan preview Sunday's event.
“This idea really came about in Pennsylvania,” Clinger stated. “And when we moved down here, Lexington seemed like the perfect place for a chili cookoff. We’re excited to see it continue to grow.”
Proceeds raised by the Chili Cookoff will benefit the town of Lexington’s Adopt-A-Cop program and the Cancer of Many Colors organization. The 2019 Chili Cookoff, in its 4th year, is this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the IceHouse Amphitheater in the town of Lexington.
“The Blowfish are always seeking to continue to give to our communities throughout Lexington County through family-fun and entertainment,” Shanahan remarked.  That entertainment on Sunday will be provided by Freeway Music School.
The Blowfish also announced new partnerships with the 4H Club of Lexington County and the Lexington County Clemson Extension to further promote the Lexington County Fair.
Lexington Extension County Coordinator Will Culler is excited about the partnership. “The Lexington County Clemson Extension office is excited to partner with Blowfish Baseball to help create an authentic County Fair," he said. "After all, what’s a County Fair without an agriculture experience?”
General Manager Theo Bacot announced one of the exciting theme nights of the 2019 season. The Blowfish will  honor the 50th anniversary of the historic moon landing on July 20 when they host the Forest City Owls.
The “Concert in the Sky” musical fireworks show will be moon-themed with songs such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Moondance,” and “Dancing In The Moonlight.” In addition, for all the hippies living in Lexington County, the Blowfish will also be commemorating the 50th anniversary of Woodstock July 26.
Bacot also announced that the new voice of Lexington County Baseball Stadium in 2019 will Christopher Thompson. Christopher is the co-host of the Morning News on 560 AM WVOC.     His co-host on the Morning News, the original voice of The Lex, Gary Barbosa retired in 2018 after nearly a decade as the in-stadium voice of the Blowfish.
The Blowfish announced two new additions to the roster for 2019. Lexington High School alum Josh Asbill (INF) has signed with the Blowfish. Josh is currently a sophomore at Charleston Southern, and will be counted on to shore up the Blowfish infield.
Clemson’s Michael Green has also signed with the Blowfish. The Tiger joins Clemson teammate Bo Majikowski and NGU’s Josh Senter of River Bluff in the outfield.
