The final hope for winning the 2nd half division of the Southern Summer Ball Series was rained out Friday for the Lexington County Blowfish.

Needing a victory at the Macon Bacon, the cancellation of the contest due to bad weather enabled the Savannah Bananas to claim the 2nd half title. The Bananas were guaranteed to finish with the best 2nd half winning percentage and overall record.

The Blowfish still had a game to play Friday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. A night after having twice as many strikeouts than total hits in a doubleheader loss to Macon, Lexington County’s bats were revived in the 15-2 win over the Catawba Valley All Stars.

In winning the final meeting of the season between the 2 teams, Lexington County scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. It was highlighted by a 3-run blast by Joshua Hernandez. 

Lexington graduate Jared Kirven, Matt McDermott and Will Abbott playing in the infield all had 2 RBI. On the mound, Davis Agle and Brooks Lucas of the College of Charleston each struck out 5 in 3 innings of work.

The Blowfish close out the 2020 season Saturday against Savannah. The festive finale will include the conclusion of the online jersey auction which ends at 9 pm and a post-game fireworks show for the 1st time this season.
