Lexington County falls again to Savannah

Blowfish dropped to 1-10 this season to Bananas

The weekend started with high hopes for the Lexington County Blowfish moving closer to Coastal Plain League South Division leader Savannah.

Instead, the Blowfish will enter a busy week further behind in the standings following its third loss in six days to the Bananas.

Savannah completed the 2-game sweep with a 7-3 win Saturday at Grayson Stadium.

The Bananas (29-11, 10-4) scored four runs off three of Lexington County’s four errors in jumping out to a 4-0 lead through three innings.

Lexington County (13-24, 5-8) finished with four errors, increasing its lead-leading total to 80 on the season.

Tyler Haselman put the Blowfish on the board in the sixth with an RBI single to make it 5-1. RBI singles in the sixth and seventh, respectively, by Justin Durdin and Hunter Wilson extended the lead to 7-1. Lexington County mounted a rally in the ninth as Jared Williams of Gilbert scored on a wild pitch and Sean Parsons of River Bluff had an RBI sacrifice fly.

With two outs and two baserunners aboard, Zach Spivey flied out to end the game.

Lexington County dropped to 1-10 on the season against the Bananas. It was outscored 31-6 and outhit 43-16 in the three games this season.

The Blowfish now begin an 8-game, 6-night stretch starting with a Monday doubleheader at the Macon Bacon.
