The Lexington County Blowfish put the finishing touches on their domination of the Lake Murray Series Cup Wednesday at home.
The 8-0 win over the Bomb Island Bombers at Lexington County Baseball Stadium gave the Blowfish a 11-2 record in the series. Lexington County went 6-1 against the Bombers and 5-1 versus the Lake Murray Purple Martins.
Irmo graduate Trent Polly of Columbia International threw 7 scoreless innings for the win. He allowed just 3 hits and struck out 6 before 2 relievers completed the final 2 innings.
Jon Cucinotta put Lexington County (21-11, 7-8) up 1-0 in the 1st inning when he scored on an infield error. Matt McDermott drove home Lexington graduate Jared Kirven with a RBI fielder's choice and Joshua Hernandez had a RBI walk with the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the 8th, McDermott had a 2-run single. This set up Zachary Iverson to belt a 3-run homer.
Iverson and McDermott each had 3 RBI and Tanner Garrison and Luke Orr each had 2 hits for the Blowfish.
Lexington County now turn its attention to the Southern Summer Ball Series.  It will play the 1st of 3 straight games against the Macon Bacon, starting 5 pm Thursday with a doubleheader.
The 1st game will go 9 innings and is a continuation of the game postponed this past Sunday in the bottom of the 3rd inning with Macon up 1-0. The 2nd game will last 7 innings.
Lexington County needs to win all 4 of its final games to win the Series Cup based on winning percentage. It closes out the regular season Saturday at home against the Savannah Bananas.
Following the game, the winners of the online jersey auction will be announced and a fireworks show will take place.
