Lexington cross-country boys place 1st at Class 5A Mid-State Qualifier

State title runs start at 9 am Saturday in Camden

Having claimed the Region 5-5A title, the Lexington boys’ cross-country team came away with the highest finish at Saturday’s Class 5A Mid-State Qualifer at the Carolina Cup Facility in Camden. 

The Wildcats finished in 1st place with 55 points, 24 ahead of Fort Mill and 52 points in front of 4th place River Bluff. Zender Jeffcoat of Lexington finished in 2nd place, with teammate William Johnson placing 5th and River Bluff’s Jacob Mangione finished in 8th place.

Dutch Fork and Irmo were 6th and 8th place, respectively. The state meet is this Saturday at 

In the Class 5A Mid-State Qualifier for girls, 4 Chronicle Country teams finished in the Top 5. Dutch Fork finished in 2nd place behind Nation Ford, followed by River Bluff (3rd), Irmo (4th) and Lexington (5th). Chapin finished in 8th place and White Knoll was 10th.

River Bluff’s Madelyn Gomez was the highest local finish in 3rd place. She was followed in 4th place by Chapin’s Abigail White, White Knoll’s Allie Clemens, Dutch Fork’s Alyssa Lomoriello, River Bluff’s Kadence Alexander and Irmo’s Katy Hall. Lexington’s Lydia Metz rounded out the Top 10.

At the Class 3A Lower State meet in Darlington, Pelion posted a 4th place finish in both the boys and girls. The Panthers’ Burgdorf Karlynn was the highest boys’ individual finisher in 4th place, while Pelion’s Yessenia Castellanos placed 8th in the girls. 

Gilbert placed 7th (girls) and 8th (boys) and Swansea was 9th (boys) at the Lower State.

In Class 2A, Gray Collegiate qualified the boys (14th) and girls (18th) for the state final starting at 9 am in Camden.
