Lexington School District 1 has 3 wrestling teams in the SC High School League semifinals.
River Bluff, Gilbert and Pelion were all victorious Monday in their respective quarterfinal contests.
The Gators were the lone road team, but defeated top seed Wando 43-34. The score was closer than it looked as River Bluff forfeited the final 3 matches after building an insurmountable lead.
Standing in the way of a 3rd state final appearance Saturday at Dreher High School is Summerville, which defeated Cane Bay 57-9. The Green Wave will host the Class 5A Lower State final Wednesday.
In Class 3A, Gilbert defeated Aynor 50-18 to advance to the Lower State final for the 3rd consecutive year. This year, the Indians will travel to Hanahan Wednesday for a 3rd straight trip to the final.
Over in Pelion, the Panthers defeated Cheraw 45-28 to reach the Class 2A Lower State final. They will now head to Bamberg-Ehrhardt to face the defending state champions for the 2nd time this season.
Pelion defeated BE 42-37 back on Jan. 28 in Gilbert and is seeking its 1st ever trip to the state final.
