The quest for a ‘4-peat’ will have to occur in comeback fashion for the Lexington girls’ golf team.

The Lady Wildcats head into Tuesday's final round of the S.C. High School League Class 5A final at Mid-Carolina Club in Prosperity 3 strokes off the lead. They trail Upper State champion Blythewood, who had a 1st round score of 322 (+27). Chapin was tied for 7th place with Dorman.

Lexington is seeking a state record 14th state title and 4th straight in its classification.

Karlee Vardas was the lone Lexington player at or under par with an even score of 73. She is currently 2nd behind Blythewood’s Ella Stalvey by 1 stroke, while Chapin’s Emily Baker (+6) was tied for 6th and Lexington’s Emily Beiers and Molly Hardwick were tied with 5 other players for 9th place.

Over in Conway, Gilbert stood in 3rd place at the Class 3A final at the Hackler Course on the campus of Coastal Carolina. The Lady Indians (+34) trail defending champion Oceanside Collegiate (-3) and 2nd place Chesnee (+15).

Kennedy Gooding led Gilbert with a score of 73 to placed 5th in the individual standings. Ally Moss scored a 75 to tie for 8th place with Alexis Hodge (86), Meredith Price (88) and Anna Moss (89) rounded out the team scoring.
