MAGIC NUMBER 13: Lexington continues run of state titles in girls' golf

Lady Wildcats' Rawl, Gray Collegiate's Jensen Castle win top medalist honors, Gilbert post best-ever team finish

The girls' golf dynasty at Lexington High School under head coach Brandon Smith added to its trophy case Tuesday. 
At Mid-Carolina Country Club in appropriately-named Prosperity, the Lady Wildcats won the S.C. High School League Class 5A title for the third straight year Tuesday. They shot a 2-day score of 613 (+29) to beat out by 27 strokes Blythewood for their state record 13th state title in 15 years. 
Lexington also claimed top medalist honors as Isabella Rawl finished at 2-under-144 for first place. Fellow Lady Wildcat Karlee Vardas finished second by four strokes and teammate Molly Hardwick tied for third in earning All-State honors. 
Chapin and River Bluff placed ninth and 11th, respectively in Class 5A. The Lady Eagles' Emily Baker finished 16th, while the Lady Eagles' Marley Barefoot placed 20th. 
A Lexington County golfer also won top honors at the Class 3A final at Carolina Springs in Powdersville. Gray Collegiate Academy's Jensen Castle placed first in the individual standings with an under par score of 137. Her sister and Lady Indian Kennedy Gooding tied for third with a score of 150 and made All-State honors. 
Gilbert High School shot a 2-day score of 704 to finish a school-best fourth place overall. Oceanside Collegiate repeated as state champion, followed by Bishop England and St. Joseph's.
