MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL - Pleasant Hill wins the inaugural Lexington X title.

The inaugural Lexington X Middle School football championship came down to the top 2 teams in Lexington School District 1.
Either Pleasant Hill or Gilbert Middle School would come away with with the inaugural championship Monday at Lexington High School.
With their future head football coach at Lexington Perry Woolbright looking on, it was the Cougars who came away with the title trophy following the 26-0 win.

Pleasant Hill dominated the game just as they did their opponents in the regular season, giving up only 6 points all season to finish 8-0.
"It was great," Cougars' head coach Matt Hornsby said. "It was just fun watching these kids play that will be playing against each other for the next 3-4 years in high school and I've got a special group this year. I've been coaching 21 years and this might be the best group of kids and athletes that I had in 21 years."
The Warriors (6-2) struggled to put drives together against the stifling Cougars defense, going backwards on penalties and negative yardage plays for most of the first half. Running back Jaden Allen-Hendrix gained yardage on some hard fought runs, including breaking a long one early in the first quarter to the Cougars’ 18.
The rest of the game was all Pleasant Hill, specifically Jayden Bradford, who scored all 4 Cougar touchdowns.

After the game, Hornsby reflected on the team’s undefeated season and winning the first Lex 10 championship.

“They’ve worked hard for everything,” Hornsby said. “This has been a special group that I would put up against anyone, I can’t wait to see some of them play for a state championship at Williams-Brice in a few years.”

The new conference has been a great success in Hornsby’s view, also.

“It spurs competition in our own local area, for sure,” He said. “But the guys on the other team in some cases will be their teammates in high school next year, so it’s just building up to that.”

Hornsby knows that as these players move up to the next level, there will be another group coming in to continue the traditions they’ve now established.

“We have been very successful the last four years, but they have to pass that torch now,” Hornsby said.
