Midland Minors win Dixie Youth World Series

Posted

Midland, representing South Carolina, defeated North Carolina (Leland) 4-3 in the final game to win the series crown. The tournament was played in Lumberton, NC. Midland is based in Pine Ridge.

Midland had wins over Virginia, Texas, and Mississippi on the way to the final. Midland lost one game to Louisiana in the double-elimination tournament.
"During their entire run in the postseason, Midland was only defeated one time, and it came in the World Series.  During this run, Midland outscored their opponents by a score of 228-24," said Midland DYB President Steve Knight.
Knight congratulated the team's coaches Matt Hornsby, Shawn Bennett and Lester Sharpe for their second World Series Championship in three years. Midlnd Minors won the DYB World Series in 2016, too.
He said the Midland league has a tradition of success.
"This is the sixth World Series Championship for Midland, and our third in three years," said Knight. "We say Midland Pride all day long, but what most people do not understand is that its not just a slogan, it is truly our way of life in our community.  We take pride in everything we have and we are so very proud to bring this title back to Town of Pine Ridge."
