It was a special day in Gilbert, America Tuesday.

Head baseball coach Ashley Burnett recorded his 500th career victory at the Sandlapper Classic as the Indians defeated Aiken 8-3.

Gilbert took the lead in the 4th inning and didn’t surrender it for the remainder of the game.

Alex McGinty led the Indians with 2 walks and 2 RBI, while Edwin Ammerson led the Indians on the mound. He recorded 4 strikeouts in 4 innings, tallying a 1.50 WHIP.

Dawson Burkett pitched the remaining 2 innings for the Indians, recording 2 strikeouts and closing the door in the milestone win.

Burnett now ranks 11th all-time in career wins in the S.C. High School League.

“Edwin Amerson came in and provided some stability on the mound and Dawson Burkett did an outstanding job of closing it out,” Burnett said after the game. “Travis Elliott and Drayton Keisler provided the spark offensively. Overall, a great team win coming back from an early deficit.”

Read more about Burnett's accomplishment in next week’s edition of the Lexington Chronicle.
