The start of the regular season for high school football is only 57 days ago.
Another campaign also means the arrival of the 2018 Lexington Chronicle High School Preview edition. Once again, profiles will be made available on the 15 Chronicle Country teams in Lexington and parts of Richland County.
This season, the reader plays a prominent role in a major feature of the edition. For the first time, voting will take place on six players to determine who will be displayed on the cover.
The nominees are:

RB CODY TEMPLES (Gilbert)
The senior Indian rushed for 1,269 yards and 21 touchdowns during a 2017 season in which his team posted a first-ever undefeated regular season and won a school-record 12 games.

RB TY WALKER (Northside Christian)
The sophomore was an integral part of the Crusaders’ SCISA 8-man runner-up finish in their second season as one of his team’s leaders in rushing touchdowns.

QB REED CHARPIA (Brookland-Cayce)
The senior Bearcat threw for 1,759 yards and 14 touchdowns despite missing time with a shoulder injury.

QB TY OLENCHUK (Dutch Fork)
The senior guided the Silver Foxes to a second straight Class 5A title after throwing for 1,685 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns last season.

QB HUNTER HELMS (Gray Collegiate)
The junior War Eagle was a All-Region and All-Chronicle Country selection after throwing for 2,452 yards for 25 TDs and completing 61 percent of his passes.

RB KENDRELL FLOWERS (Irmo)
The senior all-purpose Yellow Jacket amassed close to 1,400 all-purpose yards last season.

Voting will take place at www.lexingtonchronicle.com starting June 22.  The winner will be named prior to the Aug. 17 release of the edition.
