It was a Valentine's Day face-off filled with passion.

In the end, Brookland-Cayce came out with a 52-50 win over archrival Airport in the regular-season finale for both teams.

The Bearcats' Zach McCoy, who went on a 4th-quarter scoring tear, and Chamar Martin, who scored his team’s final 4 points, each had 17 points. Christian Ferguson hit 3 3-pointers for BC and finished with 9 points.

Airport's Jeremiah Harris had 18 and Nanders Lawrence scored 15.  The Eagles' Troy McCants recorded six blocked shots.

The win secured a playoff spot for the Bearcats, while Airport was awarded an at-large playoff spot, Saturday.

To start the high-intensity game in a packed house at Brookland-Cayce, the Eagles jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first quarter. An 18-2 run by the Bearcats resulted in a 22-11 lead in the 2nd quarter.

A 3-minute scoring drought and a 9-2 run by Airport cut Brookland-Cayce's lead to 24-19 at halftime.

The Bearcats (13-13, 3-7) remained cold to start the 2nd half and Airport took the lead back 25-24 early in the third quarter. The Eagles stretched the advantage to as many as 8 points into the fourth quarter.

McCoy went on a 10-point individual scoring tear and Brookland-Cayce tied the game at the 2:51 mark in the 4th quarter.

Airport tied the game at 48-48, but Martin scored on a putback with 1:07 left and 2 free throws with 14.5 seconds left to put Brookland-Cayce ahead for good.
