The high school football preseason officially came to a close Saturday in Chronicle Country.

The Aun and McCay Kickoff Classic at Cecil Woolbright Field marked the final scrimmages prior to Friday's Week Zero regular-season openers.

GAME 1: White Knoll 7, Mid-Carolina 7

A second-quarter score by quarterback Aveon Smith ended the Timberwolves to earn a tie with the Rebels. They had an opportunity for a go-ahead score late, but Smith's pass was intercepted with 50 seconds remaining.

Aiden Myers was named Offensive Player of the Game and teammate and offensive lineman Nick Taiste earned Most Valuable Player honors.

GAME 2: Airport 7, Lexington 0

Brandon Caughman connected with an open Nanders Lawrence in the middle of the field for a 58-yard touchdown pass with 47 seconds left to lead the Eagles to victory.

Lawrence was named Offensive Player of the Game and teammate and offensive lineman Sean Miller was named MVP. Lexington defensive back Tristan Allen was the Defensive Player of the Game.

GAME 3 - Spring Valley 14, Newberry

Three minutes into the contest, the Vikings' Skyler Mack was carted off the field and his right leg placed in a cast after suffering an injury. As he was lifted into the cart, he gave a thumbs up to the cheering crowd.

GAME 4 - Chapin 7, Pelion 0

Trey Lyles recovered a fumble and Cooper Evans scored from six yards two plays later with 6:52 left for the host team.

Quarterback Roger Pedroni was named Offensive Player of the Year and offensive lineman Garrett Huych was named MVP. The Panthers' George Storm was named Defensive MVP.
