Capital City Cup, Cats Kick Cancer to take place

High school soccer season kicks off in earnest this week in Chronicle Country.
On Wednesday, the 4th annual Capital City Cup began with opening matches at 4 different locations. Chapin, Irmo, River Bluff and Cardinal Newman high schools once again co-hosted the 4-day tournament which runs through Sunday and concludes with championship matches in the Silver and Gold divisions in Chapin.
A total of 24 Palmetto State teams are signed up for the Classic, including 7 Chronicle Country teams and defending state champion Wando. The Warriors enter the tournament with a state-record 54-game winning streak.

On Friday, the 9th annual Cats Kick Cancer Kickoff Classic will begin at Lexington High School. The contest and season-long fundraising event is designed to help Lexington District 1 students who are battling cancer and has raised more than $80,000 towards towards efforts.
Eight teams, including the host school Lexington, will take part in the 3-day tournament. Four teams will be placed into two groups (A & B), with the 2 teams with the highest point total competing for the tournament championship at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
