S.C. AMERICAN BASEBALL SUMMER LEAGUE - Lexington, Chapin-Newberry fall

West Columbia to face Rock Hill at Segra Park in Columbia

Posted

Both Lexington Post 7 and Chapin/Newberry found themselves in early deficits each were unable to overcome Wednesday night:

Edgefield County 6, Lexington 5

Just 2 nights after getting held hitless by Batesburg-Leesville’s Andy Chavez, Edgefield County opened the rematch at SRP Park with 6 unanswered runs.

Will Wicker was charged with all the runs for Lexington. Noah Davis relieved him, threw 5 scoreless innings and struck out 7.

Lexington picked up a run in the 3rd on an RBI sacrifice fly by Travis Elliott of Gilbert. It added 4 more runs in the 5th, 2 on a 2-run double by Turner Thackston of Gray Collegiate and 1 on a RBI sacrifice fly by South Carolina signee David Cromer of Lexington.

Lexington had the leadoff runner in Davis on 1st, but Edgefield County’s Will Logue retired the side. Post 7 (4-3, 2-1) returns home Thursday to face Dalzell in a non-Midlands Division contest.

North Augusta 4, Chapin/Newberry 2

A late rally was not enough to prevent Chapin/Newberry from dropping its 3rd consecutive game.

North Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the 1st on an RBI fielder’s choice by A.J. Dieble. It added 3 runs in the top 7th before Bryce Medlock put Chapin/Newberry on the board with a solo home run.

Stanton Hester had an RBI single to bring the tying run to the plate with 2 outs. However, Tripp Williams struck out to end the game.

Chapin/Newberry (0-3, 0-2) returns to Melvin Park Thursday to face Edgefield County.
