S.C. AMERICAN BASEBALL SUMMER LEAGUE PLAYOFFS - Lexington advances following 5-1 win over Greenwood

Lexington travels to Sumter for Game 1 of Best-of-3 series on Friday

Lexington defeated Greenwood 5-1 Wednesday at Roscoe Frye Field in the deciding game of the Best-of-3 series. The win moved Post 7 closer to a berth in the double-elimination tournament Aug. 14-16 in Columbia.
"It's all we can ask for," Lexington head coach Drew Towery said. "I told them last night after only getting just 2 hits (in a 2-0 Game 2 loss) after the night before having 23 the night before (in a 29-7 Game 1 win), your backs are against the wall a little bit and you've got to push forward.
"Like I told the guys in the huddle, it starts with the guy on the mound."
That guy was Chapin graduate Noah Davis. The Toccoa Falls Community College signee struck out 7 and held Greenwood scoreless for 6 1/3 innings.
Providing the timely offense was Lexington graduate David Cromer. The University of South Carolina signee had 2 RBI on 2 hits to help stake Post 7 to a 2-0 lead entering the 5th inning.
Cromer also scored on a wild pitch in the same inning to make it 4-0 after Clemson signee Ricky Williams of River Bluff did the same. Gator graduate Jacob Lebron of Newberry provided insurance in the bottom of the 6th on a RBI fielder's choice.
Davis left the game with 1 out and a runner on 2nd in the Top 7th. Reliever Kolby Crap's 1st pitch was belted for an RBI double, but the Batesburg-Leesville graduate who attends Lander got the final 2 batters to fly out to end the game.
Standing in the way in the Bracket 4 final starting Friday is a familiar playoff foe. Sumter Post 15 completed a series sweep of Dalzell Wednesday in a 16-2 road rout and will play host to Game 1 at historic Riley Park.
Sumter has eliminated Lexington twice from the playoffs since 2016. The 2 teams split their regular season meetings, both won by the road teams.
Towery said Lexington will need a repeat performance from Wednesday's win against Sumter to earn a trip to Segra Park.
"Timely hitting, good pitching is what it's going to take and bringing energy everyday in the ballpark everyday and (the players) know that," he said. "I've kind of instilled that. I have a couple who played on the team...they kind of know the history between us and Sumter and that's kind of what it's going to take. It's going to take the same things we did tonight to do those things."
In other SCABSL action, Camden's Game 2 game at Florence was postponed until Thursday due to bad weather. Camden leads the Best-of-3 series 1-0 and would travel to West Columbia Friday to start the Bracket 2 final with a win.
