West Columbia Post 79 and Lexington 7 looked to clinch its respective opening round S.C. American Baseball Summer League series on the road Tuesday.

Only 1 team managed to advance while the other returned home for a deciding game Wednesday.

West Columbia 21, Richland Post 5

Dylan Williamson had 4 hits and 4 players drove in 3 or more home runs as Post 79 improved to 12-1-1 and wrapped up the Best-of-3 series at Seven Oaks Park in Irmo.

Richland had a 4-2 lead after 3 innings when West Columbia erupted for 10 unanswered runs. Landon Lucas drove in 2 of his team-high 5 RBI with a double in the 4th and Joshua Wise had a 2-run homer in the top of the 5th.

After Richland scored its final run in the bottom of the 5th, West Columbia closed out the game with 9 runs. Airport’s Sam Lafrage closed out a 7-run 7th inning with an RBI single in which 2 players also scored on a throwing error.

Lafrage, Bradley Turner and Wise all had 3 RBI. Reign Lybrand walked 5 times, picking up an RBI with the bases loaded.

Myles Hedgecock relieved Airport’s Parker Whittle in the 4th and pitched 3 innings to pick up the victory.

West Columbia (12-1-1) now awaits the winner of the Camden/Florence series to decide the Bracket 2 champion for Game 1 Friday at Midlands Sports Complex. Camden defeated Florence 8-7 on the road to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Greenwood 2, Lexington 0

After pounding out the most runs in a game since 2015, Lexington’s bats were held silent at John Nave Stadium.

Greenwood starter Bradley Barbour limited a Post 7 offense which scored 29 runs and had 23 hits a night earlier to just 2 hits in 7 scoreless innings. He also helped his cause with a 1st inning RBI single.

Lexington (11-8-1) managed only 5 baserunners the entire game, only 2 reaching 2nd base. William Chastain of River Bluff did his part to keep Post 7 close, striking out 6 and allowing just 3 hits in 6 innings.

Bradley Ridge added an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th and Barbour got Turner Thackston to pop out with a runner on 1st to tie the Best-of-3 series at 1-1.

The deciding game is set for 7 pm Wednesday at Roscoe Frye Field in Lexington. The winner will either open the Bracket 4 final this Friday at Sumter Post 15 or play host to Dalzell.

Sumter defeated Dalzell 10-0 in Game 1 and will look to close out series Wednesday.
