For the 2nd straight night, a Wando soccer team ended the championship dreams of a nationally-ranked Lexington County team.
The host team Warriors defeated 15th-ranked Dutch Fork 2-0 in the Class 2A Lower State final.
In avenging a 2-1 loss to the Silver Foxes on Feb. 24 at the Capital City Cup that snapped a state-record 58-match win streak, Wando scored both of its goals in the 2nd half. Kevin Wray broke the scoreless tie at the 63rd minute with a head shot off the pass from McCrady Andrews.
With 15 minutes left, Owen Hamilton added the insurance goal.
Dutch Fork finishes the season with a 17-2 overall record.
Wando will face J.L. Mann at 7 pm Saturday for the Class 5A championship at W.C. Hawkins Stadium. The contest will be part of an impromptu doubleheader as both girls’ teams also facing each other in the 4:30 pm final.
The Lady Warriors defeated River Bluff 2-1 in The Swamp on Monday.
