Another day, another prestigious honor for a Lexington County high school basketball trio.

Lexington’s Olivia Thompson, Gray Collegiate’s Tommy Bruner and Swansea’s Danae McNeal were named S.C. Basketball Coaches Association’s Players of the Year.

Thompson, who’s headed to the University of South Carolina, was named the girls’ Class 5A Player of the Year. She’s the first-ever Lady Wildcat recipient of the honor and fourth overall along with Shaq Roland, Alex Spotts and Tim Heskett.

Lexington plays host to Wando Friday in the second round of the playoffs. She needs 31 points to reach 1,900 for her career.

Meanwhile, the Clemson University-bound McNeal pulled a 3-peat as Class 3A Player of the Year the same night she helped the 2nd-ranked Lady Tigers advanced to the 3rd round of the Class 3A playoffs. McNeal is 2 points shy of surpassing Timmonsville’s Sade Eli for 10th all-time in career S.C. High School League points (2,632).

Bruner became the 3rd consecutive Gray Collegiate player to win Class 2A Player of the Year. The defending Class 2A champion War Eagles face Whale Branch Saturday at Allen University.

It was 24 hours earlier that all three players were named to the South Carolina team facing North Carolina at the Carolinas Classic All-Star Basketball Game March 23 in Wilmington, N.C.

Also on Thursday, four Lexington County players were selectred to the All-State teams. Region 5-5A Player of the Year Mason Carver of Lexington was chosen in Class 5A, Keenan Coates was picked in Class 3A and Khalil Robinson and Kayla Gordon, both of Gray Collegiate, were selected in Class 2A along with Taleah Tolen of Batesburg-Leesville.
