SENIOR PROSPECT - LB Preston Sansone (River Bluff)
A 2-sport athlete, Preston Sansone exemplifies the adage about the size of the fight in the man.
“His determination on game days and relentless passion for playing the game at 1 speed,” said River Bluff head coach Christopher Hardin about the 5’9, 180-pound Sansone. “It's rare to find a 5'9 player that can play almost every position on the field at a high level. He had to change positions this year to help our team and did a tremendous job.”
For Sansone, overcoming size advantages has served as a motivation.
"Just throughout my years being one of the smaller guys has always put a chip on my shoulder and what has pushed me to work hard, whether it's being in the weight room or speed training," he said.
Sansone was the team's 4th leading tackler on a defense that allowed just 18 points a game and forced 15 turnovers this season. As a linebacker, Sansone played the role of "quarterback" on defense in terms of putting his teammates in the right position.
He credits linebacker coach Andre Cook with showing his group the importance of preparation and awareness over pure athleticism and size.
“He's a very versatile player which creates opportunities for him in college,” Hardin said.
