Noah Myers was 4-4 with 3 RBI and a trio of Gamecocks hit home runs as the University of South Carolina baseball team defeated The Citadel 10-1 uesday night at Founders Park for its 5th straight victory.
The Citadel scored a run on 3 hits in the 1st, but the next hit the Gamecock pitching staff gave up was in the 8th frame. South Carolina tied the game in the 2nd on Andrew Eyster's 4th home run of the season and took the lead for good in the 3rd on Brady Allen's 2-run single.
Myers led off the 5th with a single and scored on Jeff Heinrich's double in the right field gap. Heinrich trotted home on Brennan Milone's 1st career home run. Myers singled home George Callil in the 6th to give the Gamecocks a 7-1 lead.
The scoring ended in the 8th as Allen homered to lead off the frame and Myers singled in a pair.
Myers reached base 5 times in the win while Allen was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Julian Bosnic earned the win on the mound, striking out 3 in 1 2/3 innings of relief. The Gamecocks used 7 pitchers in the win, allowing just 4 hits with 12 strikeouts.
South Carolina opens Southeastern Conference play this Friday at home against Tennessee. The 1st pitch is set for 7 pm.
