A.J. Lawson and Jermaine Couisnard each scored 12 points each and Jair Bolden had 11 as South Carolina dominated Wyoming defensively in a 66-32 win on Sunday.
The Gamecocks (2-0) buried the Cowboys with 5 3-pointers in the first 8 minutes and a suffocating defense. It was the fewest points USC allowed since 2005 and is the fewest field goals allowed in head coach Frank Martin’s 9-year tenure.
Cowboys guard Hunter Maldonado had 32 points in his season-opener. With South Carolina redshirt sophomore Justin Minaya guarding him most of the game, he was held to 10. Minaya, who missed all but 5 games last year due to a knee injury, blanketed Maldonado and also scored 3 points with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Up next for the Gamecocks (2-0) is a Friday home game against Cleveland State at 7 pm at Colonial Life Arena.
