Griffin Templeton pitched five scoreless innings and struck out two to lead the Lexington County Blowfish to a 2-1 win over Florence Wednesday at home.
The Blowfish (15-25, 7-9) won despite getting outhit 7-5 by the RedWolves (18-22, 4-12) Their lone runs came on a throwing error by shortstop McLendon Sears in the fourth that scored Cole Tate and an RBI fielder’s choice in the fifth by Zach Spivey.
John Scott of Lexington High School, Andrew Tilghman and Colton Rendon combined to allow just one hit and strike out six (four by Scott) over the remaining four innings. Florence’s lone run came on an RBI fielder’s choice by Chris Botsoe.
The win moved Lexington County to within ½ game of second place Macon in the Coastal Plain League South Division standings. The Bacon’s’ game with first-place Savannah was postponed due to rainfall.
Lexington County and the RedWolves meet again Wednesday in Florence for a doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
