The trip to the Grand Strand yielded a tournament championship for the Lexington softball team.

The Lady Wildcats won 3 more games Tuesday to claim the Chiefs Beach Blash at North Myrtle Beach High School.

The day started with a dramatic 5-3 win over the host team. The game was tied at 3-3 when Saige Stanley belted an RBI single to score Pen Rouillard. Ashley Causey followed with an RBI sacrifice bunt and Allie Light pitched out of trouble in the bottom 7th for the win.

Light finished with 9 strikeouts and allowed 8 hits.

University of South Carolina signee Hannah Kumiyama pitched in the 2nd game against St. James. She also struck out nine and allowed no walks and allowed just 2 hits in the 8-0 victory.

Offensively, the Lady Wildcats pounded out 15 hits, 4 by Jaci Fleming. They also hit 3 homers, solo shots by Causey and Alyssa McCraw, the first of her career, and a 2-run blast by Light.

Light continued to yield a hot bat in the championship game against McBee. She hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 RBI in the 15-2 victory in 5 innings.

Stanley had 4 RBI, including a 3-run homer, and Kumiyama had a solo shot, drove in 3 runs and scored 3 times.

Light threw just 3 innings and had 6 strikeouts for her 2nd win of the day.

Lexington closes out the regular season Monday at home against Airport.

BASEBALL

River Bluff 8, Hedgesville (WVa.) 1

Clemson University commit Ricky Williams went 3-3 and Jacob Lebron and Cameron Ferrell each had 2 hits as the Gators improved to 2-0 at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach.

River Bluff (15-5) will face Brockport on Wednesday.

Riverside 5, Airport 4

Errors caused the Eagles to give up 3 runs in the Bottom 7th and lose the final of the Sheppard’s Glass Invitational at home.

Airport took a 4-2 lead in the Top 2nd following a 2-run double by Brandon Caughman and RBI sacrifice fly by Cam Beckham. It stayed that way into the Bottom 7th when Eagles’ starter Parker Whittle walked the first 2 batters.

He was replaced by Ryan Sightler, who allowed a bunt to Brody Fahr that was misplayed at 3rd base and allowed a baserunner to score. Landon Shaw followed with a game-tying RBI single and after Caden Grice was walked, Fahr scored on a walkoff RBI single by Brandon Johnson.

Midland Valley 11, Airport 8 (9 innings)

Hours after falling in heartbreaking fashion to Riverside in the Sheppard’s Glass Invitational final, the Eagles fell in extra innings to the co-Region 4-4A champion Mustangs.
