Weather postpones Brookland-Cayce vs. Irmo, Dutch Fork and Batesburg-Leesville games

Northside Christian gets 1st win, River Bluff and White Knoll still undefeated

Persistent thunderstorms resulted in 3 game postponements in Chronicle Country Friday night.

Irmo will play host to Brookland-Cayce at 10 am Saturday at W.C. Hawkins Stadium. Crosstown rival Dutch Fork will play host to Boiling Springs an hour later at 11 am.

Batesburg-Leesville will then close out Week 3 at 7 pm Monday at home against Mid-Carolina.

In Week 3 games that took place Friday:

Northside Christian 32, Newberry Academy 14

Max McKenna threw 2 touchdowns to Charlie Compton and rushed for another in the first half as the Crusaders picked up their first win of the season.

Northside Christian closes out its 3-game homestand next week against Patrick Henry.

River Bluff 35, Lugoff-Elgin 19

Braden Walker was back in the Gators’ lineup and returned in strong fashion.

The senior tailback rushed for 172 yards and 2 TDs as River Bluff improved to 4-0 for the 2nd straight season.

Quarterback Jackson Stone completed 7-10 passes for 207 yards and 3 TDs to complete the balanced offensive attack. Defensively, the Gators collected 3 sacks and Preston Samsone led the way with 10.5 tackles.

River Bluff plays host to Irmo next week in “The Swamp”.

Lexington 35, South Aiken 28

Ahmed Bynum-Scott rushed for 158 yards and 3 TDs and Dionta Sanders had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Wildcats rallied from a 14-point deficit to defeat the Thoroughbreds.

Lexington (3-1) plays host to Batesburg-Leesville next week.

White Knoll 51, Aiken 6

For the 2nd consecutive week, the Timberwolves found itself trailing 6-0.

Once again, they stormed back behind the play of quarterback Aveon Smith. The Miami (OH) commit rushed for a touchdown and threw 3 in the 2nd quarter as White Knoll improved to 4-0 on the season.

Smith finished with 133 passing yards and 65 rushing yards. Teammate T.J. Peebles added 2 scores.

White Knoll plays host to Gray Collegiate seeking to start 5-0 for the 2nd time in school history.

Oceanside Collegiate 49, Gray Collegiate 42

Hunter Helms’ 353 yards on 25-27 passing and 3 TDs and 3 TDs and an interception on defense by K.Z. Adams was not enough for the War Eagles Friday at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

A big reason was the play of Landsharks’ running back Keegan Williams. He had 357 total yards of offense and 5 TDs, including a go-ahead 90-yard kickoff return for a score after Gray Collegiate rallied from a 21-point deficit.

Gray Collegiate (2-2) travels to White Knoll next week.
