WEDNESDAY HIGH SCHOOL SPRING SPORTS - White Knoll, Lexington win playoff softball openers

Round 2 of S.C. High School League baseball playoffs set for Thursday.

Region 5-5A rivals Lexington and defending Class 5A champion White Knoll each claimed 10-run victories in their district playoff openers Wednedsday.
The Lady Wildcats rolled past St. James 12-2, while the Timberwolves remained undefeated on the season with a 10-0 win over Carolina Forest. 
White Knoll will face Cane Bay at 6:30 p.m. Friday at home, weather permitting. In case of rain, the contest will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, Lexington will either play host to Spring Valley or travel to top-seed Berkeley on Saturday. 


Lexington 12, St. James 2 (6 innings)
The Lady Wildcats pounded out 18 hits and had 3 players hit home runs in the victory.
University of South Carolina commit Hannah Kumiyama belted a 2-run homer in the 1st inning. Saige Stanley followed in the 2nd inning with a solo shot and Jessica Senn had a leadoff blast in the bottom 4th to extend the lead to 10-0.
Starting pitcher Allie Light struck out 9 and helped her cause with 3 hits and 4 RBI. The Lady Wildcats also capitalized off 4 errors, including a throwing miscue to 1st base on a bunt by Skyler Logsdon that led to Stanley racing the bases for the game's final score in the 6th inning.


White Knoll 10, Carolina Forest 0
The Lady Timberwolves pounded out 9 hits and capitalized off 3 errors to win their 23rd consecutive overall game and 6th straight in the post-season, both dating back to last season.
Andrea Lyon struck out 9 and allowed just 2 hits to pick up the victory. Hannah Goodwin had a 2-run single and she and Briannah Workman had 2 hits each and Lyon, Workman,  Libby Williams, Shelby Davies, Ashlee Burkett and Ariana Fair all had an RBI.
Up next are the Lady Cobras, who defeated Summerville 9-3. 


BASEBALL


TUESDAY'S PLAYOFF GAMES
River Bluff 4, West Florence 0 

Clemson University signee Ricky Williams struck out 8 and allowed just 2 hits and Cameron Ferrell had 3 hits and a a 2-run homer to lead the Gators on Tuesday.
River Bluff (18-5) will head to Berkeley for a winner's bracket matchup on Thursday. 


Pelion 1, Georgetown 0 
The Region 5-3A champion Panthers will play host to Wade Hampton on Thursday in the winner's bracket Class 2A contest.

Jordan Johnson, Damon Williams and Elliott Fish all helped the Silver Foxes score 3 unanswered goals in the non-region victory.


GIRLS SOCCER
Pelion 3, Batesburg-Leesville 0

Nat Campbell had 2 goals and 1 assist and Hannah Owens had 1 goal and 1 assist for the Lady Panthers.
