The Chapin High School baseball team looked to move a win closer to clinching the Region 5-5A title.

Lexington and River Bluff, however, kept their respective hopes alive Wednesday with victories.

The Wildcats defeated Chapin 5-1 in Game 2 of the 3-game series. Will Wicker struck out 6 in 6 innings and Lexington capitalized off errors from the Eagles for critical runs in the 4th and 5th innings.

The game was scoreless in the bottom 4th when Seth Altenberg and Tristan Allen reached base on singles off Matthew Becker.  Landon McMahan then laid down a bunt single in which he reached 1st base safely and managed to score both baserunners.

A RBI single by Drew Calhoun in the Top 5th cut Chapin’s deficit to 2-1. Lexington answered with 3 runs in the bottom 5th, 2 of which came off errors by the Eagles.

Blake Knight relieved Wicker with 1 out and 2 runners aboard in the Top 7th. He managed to strikeout Calhoun and got Becker to line out to centerfield.
