WEEK 6 FOOTBALL: Dutch Fork makes it 17 in a row

Gray Collegiate stuns top-ranked Lamar

Posted

The streak of domination continued Friday for Dutch Fork High School.
Led by quarterback Ty Olenchuk's four touchdown passes and 185 rushing yards and three touchdowns by Jonathan Hall, the 2-time defending Class 5A champions rolled past Region 5-5A newcomer 70-7 at home.
It was both the 17th consecutive win both overall and in region play for the Silver Foxes (5-0, 1-0), ranked 23rd by USA Today High School Sports. This marked the second straight year Dutch Fork had posted 70 or more points (it scored 77 in last year's playoff win over Stratford) and matched its season-opening margin of victory of 63 points.
Olenchuk was 16-25 passing for 310 yards. Jalin Hyatt had six receptions for 109 yards and 2 TDs and Gage Zirke had five catches for 85 yards and a score.
Chapin's lone touchdown came on a 10-yard touchdown run by Taison Thomas in the fourth quarter.
For the season, Dutch Fork has outscored its five opponents 320-42. Up next is a Region 5-5A showdown in "The Swamp" against fellow 5-0 River Bluff.

Gilbert 42, Swansea 9
Dre Crook and Jy Tolen scored two touchdowns and Josh Strickland was 12-14 passing for 135 yards and a score as the Indians opened defense of their Region 5-3A title.
Swansea (0-6, 0-1) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass by Keenan Coats to Michael Jones. Gilbert (4-2, 1-0) responded with 28 unanswered points before halftime.
Gllbert returns to action Oct. 12 at home against Strom Thurmond, which travels to the Tigers next week.

Gray Collegiate 38, Lamar 12
Hunter Helms threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns as the War Eagles handed the defending Class A champion Silver Foxes their first home loss in five years.
Gray Collegiate (2-4) opens Region 3-4A play next week against Columbia at a site to be determined.
