Since Tom Knotts arrived at Dutch Fork High School in 2010, region titles have become as synonymous with the program as state championships.
On Friday, the top-ranked and defending Class 5A champion Silver Foxes claimed their 10th consecutive region title and 4th straight in Region 5-5A in a 43-7 win over Lexington.
In extending the undefeated streak to 34 games, along with winning for the 33rd straight time against a South Carolina opponent and 22rd time in region play, Dutch Fork (8-0-1, 3-0) did it without quarterback Ty Olenchuk throwing a touchdown for the first time this season.
Meanwhile, his favorite target Jalin Hyatt was limited after leaving the game with an apparent knee injury. No further details were given, although Hyatt was reportedly walking under his own power on the sidelines.
Offensively, Jon Hall carried the offene with 3 rushing touchdowns. Tyrik McDaniel had an 82-yard punt return TD and an interception and Elijan Spencer and Aaron Harrison both had scoring runs.
The lone score for Lexington (6-2, 2-1) came on defense. David Cromer returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter.
Dutch Fork will have a bye week before closing out the regular season Nov. 1 at White Knoll. Lexington will play host to Chapin.
River Bluff 45, Chapin 28
In 3 seasons, C. Blair Hardin has become the winningest head coach in school history.
This past Friday, the Gators earned Hardin a personal milestone as it maintained a share of 2nd place in Region 5-3A.
Led by Jackon Stone's 3 touchdown passes and 105 rushing yards and 2 scores by Riley Myers, River Bluff (7-1, 1-1) won the 100th career coaching game for Hardin.
The game was deadlocked twice in the first half. Chapin quarterback Roger Pedroni had 322 passing yards and 2 touchdowns as the Eagles stayed close early.
In the 2nd half, Stone rushed and threw for touchdowns to help extend the lead to 42-21. Chapin's final touchdown came on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Pedroni to Zavier Short, who finished with 8 receptions for 144 yards.
The Gators play host to White Knoll next week, while Chapin (4-4, 1-2) travels to Lexington.
W.W. King 28, Newberry Academy 24
The Knights snap an 8-game losing streak dating back to last season and win on "Homecoming" night.
Up next for W.W. King (1-6, 1-4) is a road trip to Winnsboro to face Richard Winn.
Spring Valley 36, White Knoll 29
For the 2nd straight week, the Timberwolves dropped a hard-fought contest in the final minutes.
Anthony Wilson's 31-yard touchdown pass to Will Singleton and 2-point conversion gave the Vikings the non-region win. It was just the 4th non-region loss in 29 games this season for a Region 5-5A team.
Jaelin Gray threw for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns, 2 caught by Darius Derrick-Jones, in his 2nd start in place of quarterback Aveon Smith. Running back Donovan Johnson rushed for 107 yards and Ramsey Kennedy had a 42-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Wilburn on a trick play.
White Knoll (5-3, 0-2) returns to region play next week at River Bluff.
