West Columbia pitchers combine on 1-hitter in win over Chapin/Newberry

Alex Lyon led a 3-pitcher effort by West Columbia to blank Chapin/Newberry 8-0 Tuesday at Midlands Baseball Complex.

The College of Charleston commit struck out 3 batters and allowed just 1 hit in 5 scoreless innings for the victory. Matthew Dooley relieved Lyon and fanned 4 batters in 1 ⅔ hitless innings.

Bryce Metts struck out the final Chapin/Newberry batter to complete the 1-hit shutout. 

West Columbia (4-1) erupted for 5 runs in the bottom 3rd. University of South Carolina signee Cade Austin was charged with 4 earned runs for the loss.

Gamecock signee Kameron Dunlap, The Citadel signee Sam LaFrage and Josh Wise all had 2 hits and an RBI each and Landon Lucas scored 3 runs. 

The 2 teams meet again Wednesday at Melvin Park in Chapin.

Lexington 13, Dalzell 1 (5 innings) 

Mason Eaddy drove in 3 runs and Clemson University signee Ricky Williams had 3 hits as Lexington Post 7 improved to 3-1 on the season.

Lexington jumped out to a 4-0 in the top 1st. Williams and Cam Ferrell each drove in a run and Tyde Cooper added a 2-run double. 

Dalzell picked up its lone run off winning pitcher Alex Hanson in the bottom 2nd on a double by Greg Harris. Eaddy answered for Lexington in the top 3rd with a 2-run single to make it 6-1.

Lexington picked up 5 of its final 7 runs off wild pitches and passed balls. In between, Turner Thackston added a 2-run single.

Hanson finished with 5 strikeouts and Josh Turner threw 2 scoreless innings of relief.

Lexington will play its home opener at Ballpark Road Wednesday against Sumter Post 15. On Thursday, it will make its 2nd trip to Segra Park to face Fort Mill.
