White Knoll wins opener over Brookland-Cayce

In a game plagued by weather delays and a fourth quarter pushed back to Saturday afternoon, the White Knoll Timberwolves kicked off their season at home with a 27-13 win over the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats.

After trading early touchdowns with the Bearcats, Timberwolves’ quarterback Aveon Smith showed off his arm in the second quarter with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Darius Derrick-Jones to put the Timberwolves up 14-7 at halftime.

Brookland-Cayce (0-1) answered in the third quarter with a 2-play drive starting at the White Knoll 36 after a short punt from the Timberwolves. Malachi Brown completed a 35-yard pass to Will Way on a 2nd and 9 play for the score.

White Knoll added another touchdown in the 4th quarter (with a missed PAT) to increase their lead to 27-13. 

When the contest was resumed Saturday, the Bearcats drove the football to the White Knoll 18. They ended up turning the football over on downs and the Timberwolves ran out the clock.

White Knoll finished the game with 192 rushing yards rushing and 124 passing yard. Brookland-Cayce had 81 on the ground and 172 passing. T.J. Peebles gained 82 rushing yards to lead White Knoll’s ground game, while Smith went 8-12 for 108 yards and one TD.

Brookland-Cayce’s Will Way led the Bearcats with 86 yards rushing, while Brown went 13-19 for 172 yards and a TD.

White Knoll (1-0) travels to Colleton County, while B-C plays host to archrival Airport.
