Forrester homers twice, 5 RBI in West Columbia win

Noah Davis has played like a Most Valuable Player for Lexington Post 7 this season.

The Toccoa Falls College freshman and Chapin High graduate had another strong performance both at the plate and on the mound in Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Chapin-Newberry Post 193/24 at Newberry College.

After he and Lexington suffered the 1st loss of the season in a 1-0 setback to West Columbia Post 79, Davis held Chapin/Newberry to 4 hits and struck out 4 in 6 shutout innings. He also had an RBI triple and scored a run.

“Guy does it all,” Lexington head coach Drew Towery said. “There’s no doubt in my mind why he won (Division I South) Freshman of the Year at Toccoa this year. He’s hitting, he’s pitching, he’s doing everything that’s asked and I think the guys really get behind him because he’s kind of that silent leader that leads by example.”

It was scoreless between Davis and Chapin/Newberry starter Wyatt Butcher through the 1st 2 innings. After Ryan Toll of Lexington High led off with the 1st of 3 triples by Post 7, Mason Eaddy of Gray Collegiate scored him on a sacrifice fly in the top 3rd.

Chapin/Newberry (4-5, 4-3) loaded the bases with 2 out in the bottom 3rd. Davis ended the threat by striking out Payton Gardner. In the top 5th, Davis tripled to score Wells Sykes of Lexington High and Butcher was replaced by Blair Rogers.

A passed ball allowed Davis to reach homeplate and put Lexington up 3-0. A pair of River Bluff High School players accounted for 2 runs in the top 6th as Weston Lever hit an RBI triple and scored on fellow Gator Ethan Plyler’s single.

Alex McGinty of Gilbert struck out 2 in a scoreless bottom 7th for Lexington (8-1, 5-1), who remained in 1st place in American Legion League 3 with 4 games left. The 2 teams meet again Friday at Roscoe Frye Field.

West Columbia 8, Richland 4

Airport’s John Paul Forrester powered West Columbia to its 2nd straight League 3 win and 3rd overall Tuesday at Brookland-Cayce High School.

After putting West Columbia up 1-0 in the bottom 1st, Forrester cleared the bases in the bottom 2nd with a grand slam to regain the lead at 6-2. He, Cam Beckham and Andon Dodds all had 2 hits.

On the mound, Levi Dunn struck out 6 in 5 innings and Bryce Metze fanned 5 in 2 innings for West Columbia (4-5, 3-4). The 2 teams meet again Thursday at Heathwood Hall.
