Irmo Okra Strut, Rhythm on the River Announce Music Lineups

Posted

Fall and its bountiful events calendar are just around the corner, and two of Lexington County’s perennial events have announced their performers for 2022.

At the Irmo Okra Strut Festival, which returns Sept. 23-24, circa-’90s alt-rock band (and, increasingly, Columbia festival fixture) Cowboy Mouth will headline on Friday night, while the ever-popular local party band The Root Doctors lending support.

On Saturday, road-dogging Americana songwriter Corey Smith headlines, with support from Columbia synth-funk band OuterEgo. Leading up to the music will be a day of “fun performers” — “Over the years we have had everything from Double Dutch teams to Marionettes and all performances in between,” the festival says on its website.

The festival also includes rides and amusements and a parade.

Also returning in the coming months is Rhythm on the River, the fall and spring music series put on by the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber, with concerts set for each Friday night in October at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater.

There’s plenty of seating at the amphitheater, or bring a blanket/chair. Relax & enjoy the view of the Congaree River or take a walk along the trail while listening to the concert.

The lineup kicks off with the return of Elvis impersonator Phil Urban (Oct. 7), followed by spaced-out Atlanta rock outfit the Neon Brown Band (Oct. 14). Nahi Gruv, which finds The Root Doctors’ Walter S. Hemingway seeking to bring together “audiences who listen to classical, jazz and crooner styles, plays next (Oct. 21), before Interstate Exiles bring a bevy of local bar rock experience to the final fall concert (Oct. 28.).

“There’s plenty of seating at the amphitheater, or bring a blanket/chair,” the series’ Facebook page says. “Relax & enjoy the view of the Congaree River or take a walk along the trail while listening to the concert.”
