Letters to the editor

I’ve been mulling this over for several weeks. Media is looking for “eyeballs” and your paper keeps me reading and thinking! Plus editorials and writers “push back”, pressing issues which don’t want to be addressed by those who are in control.
Fellow subscribers of the Lexington Chronicle,  take note, we are standing up to the woke-media, and politicians, supporting this paper. For less than $1 aweek, you can read quality writers and be better informed and uplifted by what you read, finding encouragement for daily living.
Yes, weekly newspapers are the answer to the dailies, which due to cost, over $10 a week with little local content.
Taking weekly papers keeps you up with what is happening locally. This is a way to “push back” against the tide of imperialism by the large media sources.
The greatest benefit to the local weekly paper, is being reminded by the advertisers to eat and shop locally, which builds our economic vitality.
This is our home base. Let’s urge other friends to subscribe to a good paper!
Tom Plowden, Edgefield County

The National Archives and Records Administration takes care of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
A lengthy internal document never mentions critical race theory by name, but it uses all of it’s lingo and style of analysis.
According to Jarrett Stepman of The Daily Signal, it highlights “white privilege,” “systemic racism,” and “equity.”
To no one’s surprise, it cites The New York Times’ dubious 1619 Project and Ibram X. Kendi, the self-styled “anti-racist” whose ideas sound a lot like racism.
The Rotunda is a problem because  it “lauds wealthy white men while marginalizing BIPOC – black, Indigenous, and other people of color. In the name of “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” the  task force recommended changes to how our founding documents are presented to the public.
The report suggested “trigger warnings” to alert visitors of what may cause intense physiological and psychological symptoms.
“Providing an advisory notice to users gives us an opportunity to mitigate harm and contextualize the records,” the report says. “It creates a space to share with the public our ultimate goals for reparative description, demonstrate our commitment to the process, and address any barriers that we may face in achieving these goals.”
What should visitors to the Rotunda see rather than our founders? An interpretive “dance or performance art that invites dialogue about the ways that the United States has mythologized the founding era.”
