The Lexington County Blowfish looked to open the 2022 season in "glowing" fashion.

An excited crowd were privy to the debut of the neon blue and red designed "Glowfish" hats and jerseys, as well as a post-game laser light show. The Blowfish also debuted their Lexington County themed jerseys with the names of over 35 public, educational, law enforcement and emergency serivce proudly displayed on the back.

The only thing to complete a colorful and positive evening for the Blowfish was a victory over Coastal Plain League nemesis the Macon Bacon. Lexington County fell behind early and a late rally came short in the 4-2 loss.

The Bacon outhit the Blowfish 10-6 and capitalized off three errors. Lexington County starting pitcher threw 4 1/3 innings, struck out three and allowed five hits.

Dominic Arienzo accounted for the big blow with a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. The Blowfish loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning with two outs, but Rom Kellis struck out to keep it 2-0.

University of South Carolina infielder Talmadge Lecroy put the Blowfish on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a sacrifice fly to score Ryan Ouzts.

Macon added a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Matt Scannell off reliever Dalton Mims of Airport High School. In the eighth, JC LeGrand hit a sacrifice fly off Irmo graduate Aaron White to make it 4-1.

Clemson outfielder Alex Urban of River Bluff kicked off a final rally for Lexington County in the ninth with a one-out double. He then advanced to third base and home on wild pitches.

After Kellis walked, Macon made a pitching change with the tying run coming to the plate. Peyton Cariaco got Ouzts to hit into an out and struck out Braylin Marine to end the game.

Lexington County looks to rebound Friday at home against West Division newcomer Forest City. The team has planned a special Memorial Day tribute to the 13 servicemembers killed in an airport terrorist attack in August 2021 in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The players will all wear jerseys with the names of the servicemembers.
