The state Attorney General’s Office announced the arrest of two Lexington County men on child sex abuse material charges.
Per a release, Brian Andrew Brown, 18 of West Columbia, and Nathan Allen Miller, 32 of Cayce, were arrested on Dec. 28 and 29, respectively, on six total charges connected to the sexual exploitation of minors.
“Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department made the arrests in these unrelated cases,” the release states, noting that Investigators with the Attorney General's Office, also a member of the task force, assisted in the investigations.
“Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led them to both Brown and Miller. Investigators state Brown distributed files of child sexual abuse material and Miller was in possession of child sexual abuse material.”
Brown is charged with two counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor, punishable by up to 10 years in prison on each count.
Miller is charged with four counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor, punishable by up to 10 years in prison on each count.
Both cases will be prosecuted by the state Attorney General’s Office.
“Child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, is a more accurate reflection of the material involved in these heinous and abusive crimes,” the release notes. "’Pornography’ can imply the child was a consenting participant. Globally, the term child pornography is being replaced by CSAM for this reason.”
