Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Arrests Man Accused of Shooting Ride Service Driver

The Lexington County Sheriff’s department arrested a Columbia man Friday morning who is accused of shooting a ride service driver following a road rage incident.

“Kenneth Lewis Trogdon, 36, is charged with attempted murder, shooting into a vehicle and other gun charges, according to arrest warrants,” a release from the department states, explaining that Trogdon followed the driver to a hotel parking lot where the alleged shooting took place.

“Based on what the ride service driver told detectives, he and Trogdon almost crashed into each other in the hotel parking lot about 1 a.m. Friday,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. “Trogdon then followed the ride service driver around the Bush River Road area and eventually shot and hit the driver in the arm. The shooting victim then drove to a gas station and called for help.”

Per copies of arrest warrants acquired by the Chronicle, Trogdon fired two times into the vehicle of an Uber driver after following him from a Days Inn on Bush River Road. The Uber driver attempted to elude Trogdon after leaving the hotel, completing at least three U-turns.

"After the last U-turn, the victim drove his vehicle toward the defendant's vehicle and as he was passing the defendant fired ... at least twice," one of the warrants states.

“The ride service driver had Trogdon’s car following him on dashcam video,” Koon is further quoted in the release. “You can also hear gunshots on the video.”

Citing investigators, the release states that the ride service driver was treated and released from the hospital Friday morning. Deputies transported Trogdon to the Lexington County Detention Center after his arrest.
