Lexington Police have arrested a Columbia man after a neighborhood shooting they say involved an argument over money.

Darian Kristopher Riley, 22, was arrested following the Feb. 2 incident along the 100 block of Whispering Winds Drive, off Augusta Road/U.S. Highway 1 between downtown Lexington and Interstate 20.

“At approximately 10:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the incident location in reference to a shots fired call,” the release states. “Officers observed several areas of the incident location that had been struck by gunfire. Witness statements and surveillance footage obtained indicated that a dark colored Kia Optima was seen leaving the area within moments of the gunshots. No injuries were reported in relation to this incident.”

The release states that after investigation, officers determined that Riley and a resident of the shooting location were involved in an ongoing dispute over money, with evidence placing him in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

Riley was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center early Feb. 4 after being arrested for first degree assault and battery as well as discharging a firearm into a dwelling. He was released after being granted a $20,000 bond.
