Lexington Police Respond to False Bomb Threat at Downtown Hotel

Posted

Officers responded to what turned out to be a false threat of an explosive at a downtown Lexington hotel on Friday.

Several Lexington Police vehicles and an ambulance were seen responding to the Comfort Suites on West Main Street after 1 p.m. The department tweeted out that it was investigating and the threat appeared to be false, before confirming that there were no explosives in a follow-up post.

Hotel guests, initially evacuated from the building, have been allowed to return to their rooms and the man who made the “threats of a bomb” has been transported by EMS to be evaluated, Lexington Police tweeted.

“During interviews with first responders, the man stated that he’s been experiencing hallucinations and has known mental health issues,” reads one of the department’s tweets. “Thanks [Lexington County Sheriff’s Department] K-9 Unit with K-9 Bodi who arrived quickly and completed a search of the hotel for the safety of those staying at the hotel.”
