Man Killed, Brother Also Struck in Lexington County Highway Shooting

Posted

A Columbia man was shot to death while riding down a Lexington County highway.

A release from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department cites Coroner Margaret Fisher in reporting that Harold Lord Peak, 22, suffered multiple gunshots during the Sept. 24 incident and died at the scene. His older brother, who has not been identified, was driving the car and was also shot; he is expected to recover after being taken to the hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound, according to the release.

“Based on what the victim’s brother told deputies, the brothers were riding on Princeton Road between Ramblin Road and Edmund Highway when they realized they were being shot at,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release.

Princeton Road intersects Edmund Highway less than two miles southwest of South Congaree.

According to a provided incident report, an officer with the South Congaree Police arrived first on the scene before sheriff’s deputies arrived. The red Kia Soul the brothers had been driving was situated between a lane and the median.

The older brother, who suffered a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, told deputies that he was unsure what the assailants’ vehicle looked like and was unable to provide detailed information about the incident, according to the report. The highway was temporarily shut down.

The sheriff’s department requests that anyone with information about potential suspects contact Crimestoppers or Det. Senn (803-785-8320).
