The new Augusta Road Collection and Recycling Center, located at 4765 Augusta Rd., will open to the public Friday, Sept. 5.
The project, first introduced in 2016, has been nearly a decade in the making.
The former site, located at 110 River Chase Way, permanently closed to the public Monday, Sept. 1.
“The replacement project was first introduced in 2016, demonstrating the County’s long-term commitment to improving services for residents,” according to the press release.
The new center will be three times the capacity of the old facility and will provide more efficient services to residents. The new location is also expected to ease traffic congestion by removing an estimated 175,000 vehicles each year from the former site.
Lexington County leaders and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently.
“Closing Riverchase marks the end of an era, but the new Augusta Road site represents a major step forward in providing convenient, safe, and efficient services for our residents,” Lee McIntyre, director of solid waste management, said in a press release.
There are 10 other collection and recycling centers Lexington County residents can use at the following addresses (they’re open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays; Closed Tuesdays, Thursdays, New Years Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day)
