Noah Davis' 5 RBI, 10 Ks keeps Lexington Post 7 perfect

Posted

A big game both at the plate and on the mound for Noah Davis helped Lexington Post 7 stay undefeated on the season.

Davis accounted for 3 hits and 5 RBI in the 16-3 victory over Richland Post 215 at Heathwood Hall on Thursday. He also had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings as Lexington overcame 4 errors to improve to 5-0 on the season.

“We’re playing well for the most part and a lot of good times,” Lexington head coach Drew Towery said. “We’re still trying to find out who we are and we’re still trying to piece things together. I feel good about the guys and, obviously, anybody that sees success is going to have confidence when they go on the mound and defense and, obviously, at the plate. It’s important for them to keep that. It’s baseball. You don’t plan on to win them all, but it’s good so far to have that confidence day in and day out.”

Lexington jumped out to a 3-0 lead following an RBI double by Charlie Compton of Northside Christian and 2-run single by Andy Chavez of Batesburg-Leesville. After Richland scored on a passed ball in the bottom 1st, Post 7 extended its lead to 5-1 on an RBI single by Luther Bradley and sacrifice fly by Davis.

Richland got within 5-2 in the bottom 2nd. Lexington added runs on RBI walks by Weston Lever of River Bluff and Drayton Summers in the 4th and 5th innings, respectively, then broke the game open with a 9-run rally in the 7th.

Davis capped the offensive outburst with a 3-run triple. Matthew Boozer pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning to close out the victory.

Lexington returns to action Monday at Roscoe Frye Field against Greenwood Post 20.
