Thursday — Sept. 8

The Embers (concert)

Classic beach music band The Embers perform at Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W. Main St.). This Lexington Live event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is free to attend. Visit icehouseamphitheater.com for more information.

Jazz on the River

Weekly fall jazz series at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater (121 Alexander Rd.) kicks off, promising “live music, good food [and] drinks.” Free to attend, and dogs are welcome. Event goes from 6 to 9 p.m. Find more info at facebook.com/jazzontheriversc.

Friday — Sept. 9

Fallapalooza (concert)

The Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W. Main St.) hosts a multi-band Fallapalooza concert. There will be performances by Glide: The Stone Temple Pilots Tribute, Siamese Dream: The Smashing Pumpkins Tribute Band and Nirvani: A Nirvana Tribute Experience. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Tickets are $18 and showtime is 6:30 p.m. Visit icehouseamphitheater.com for more information. 

Les Flat Out Strangers (concert)

Head over to Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd. in Columbia) and enjoy an evening of jazz music as part of the park’s Jazz Series concert. Les Flat Out Strangers will perform, there will be food from Cox Family BBQ and beer and wine will be available for purchase. The show is for all ages, and admission is $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. Seating is provided. Visit icrc.net for more information. 

The Tre King Band (concert)

Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) hosts The Tre King Band performing “A Night Of Soulful Grooves. Expect to hear some house music and reggae along with classics by Mtume, Patrice Rushen, Mary J. Blige, The Staples Singers, Chaka Khan, The Isley Brothers, Prince, The Gap Band and more. Saturday — Sept. 10

The Jake Bartley Band (concert)

Upstate country group The Jake Bartley Band performs at Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St. in West Columbia). Showtime is 7 p.m., and the band will play a mix of covers and originals until 10 p.m. The show is free to attend. Visit facebook.com/savagecraftaleworks for more information. 

John Lakin (concert)

Gospel performers John Lakin and Friends play  the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St. in Irmo). The performance will be recorded for a live release. Showtime is 6 p.m., and tickets cost between $15 and $20. Visit harbisontheatre.org for more information. 

Meeting Street Artisan Market

Head over to the Interactive Art Park (425 Meeting St. in West Columbia) for the Meeting Street Artisan Market. The market includes vendors selling original art, crafts, foods, and produce. Support local vendors, interact with the unique sculptures throughout the park, and then head to State and Meeting Streets, and Court Avenue to continue shopping and dining. J. Stephens (concert)

Monday — Sept. 12

Family Palooza Game Night

Join the Chapin Branch library (129 Columbia Ave.) for an evening of all-ages fun at their Family Palooza Game Night. Firefly Toys & Games brings some of their favorite family-friendly games for a night of competitive fun. The event runs from 6 to 7 p.m. and is free to attend. Tuesday — Sept. 13

Songwriter’s Night

Join Bill’s Music Shop and Pickin’ Parlor for a songwriter’s night. Watch or join in as musicians and song writers gather to play their original songs or cover songs they are working on. Wednesday — Sept. 14

Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats (concert)

The high-energy Asheville funk-rock band Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats perform at New Brookland Tavern (122 State St.). Side Hustle opens the show. Showtime is 7 p.m., and tickets are $10. Visit newbrooklandtavern.com for more information.

Under the Sun (concert)

The Town of Lexington’s free Lexington Live concert series continues with Under the Sun, a five-piece cover band from Columbia: “As their name rightly suggests, Under the Sun plays a variety of genres such as country, pop, classic rock, and ’90s rock.” The concert at the Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W Main St.) starts at 6:30 p.m. Find more info at icehouseamphitheater.com.

Creature Comforts Launch

WECO Bottle & Biergarten (626 Meeting St. in West Columbia) celebrates the arrival of popular Georgia brewery Creature Comforts to the S.C. distribution market with food truck assistance from The Wurst Wagen and VG Foods. The event starts at 4 p.m. Find more info at facebook.com/wecobiergarten.

Across the County Line

Sandbox Percussion Ensemble (concert)

Join the Koger Center for the Arts (1051 Greene St. in Columbia) and Sandbox Percussion Ensemble for a special performance Sept. 9. The ensemble will perform “Seven Pillars,” a composition by USC graduate Andy Akiho that The New York Times called “a lush, brooding celebration of noise.” Created in collaboration with Sandbox Percussion, the piece was a finalist for two Grammy Awards and the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
