Friday — Feb. 3

“Matilda, Jr.” (play)
Head over to Village Square Theatre (105 Caughman Rd.) for a performance of “Matilda, Jr.”: “Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts and could be the school pupils’ saving grace.” Showtime is 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, military members, students and youth. Festival of Lights (dance)
Alegria Dance Studio (1125 B Ave. in West Columbia) and Columbia Ecstatic Dance Collective says they will “celebrate the midpoint between the Solstice and the Equinox ... a holiday known as St. Brigid’s Day, Candlemas, Chinese New Year, Imbolc and Groundhog’s Day [that] is celebrated by many as we come out of hibernation in anticipation of the regeneration of the earth, new beginnings and brighter days [with] 1.5 hours of meditative movement/ecstatic dancing. David Glymph (concert)
Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) and saxophonist David Glymph present “A Night of Sax & Soulful Grooves.” Expect to hear hits and classics by Tevin Campbell, Stevie Wonder, Grover Washington, Jr., Boney James, Marvin Gaye, Toni Braxton, Everette Harp and much more. Colonial Forts Tour
Meet at the Cayce Tennis Center (1120 Fort Congaree Trail) to begin a two-hour Colonial Forts walking tour. Walk to the site of Fort Congaree and hear its intriguing stories, delve into the struggles of the Deerskin Economy, then travel forward in time to Fort Congaree and Fort Granby. “Build a Man” (play)
The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St.) hosts a performance of the play “Build A Man.” Written by 100.1 The Beat’s Miss Monique, “Build a Man” is a dramedy about the hope, patience, trust and love that must be accessed from within. NBT Market

Kingsmen Quartet (concert)
Enjoy a morning of gospel music with a performance by the Kingsmen Quartet at Convent Baptist Church (787 Convent Church Rd. in Leesville). Soul II Soul (concert)
90s R&B group Soul II Soul plays at Colonial Life Arena (801 Lincoln St. in Columbia) on Feb. 3. The group will play hits like “Back 2 Life” and “Keep On Movin’” and much more. Mat & Savanna Show (concert)
The Newberry Opera House (1201 McKibben St.) hosts the Mat & Savanna Show on Feb. 3 Mat and Savanna Shaw are a daddy-daughter duo from Utah that rose to prominence during the COVID-19 quarantine. Kelly Clarkson called them “incredibly gifted” and “Good Morning America” said, “This father-daughter duo’s music is bringing hope.” Showtime is 8 p.m., and tickets cost between $35 and $50. Ritz Fest
Head over to the Ritz Theater in Newberry (1511 Main St.) on Feb. 4 for the Ritz Fest celebration, which aims to raise at least $3,000 for suicide prevention. This event is headlined by Chris Reed and the Bad Kids, who are joined by nine other performers. In addition to live music from 12 to 7 p.m, there will be door prizes and food trucks on site. “Romeo & Juliet” (ballet)
The Koger Center for the Arts (1051 Greene St.) and the Columbia City Ballet host a performance of Prokofiev’s classic ballet “Romeo & Juliet” on Feb. 4.
