The blessings of a deadly year

A better way to consider troubled 2020

We’re not big on the pain covid-19 brought us either. But look on the bright side. 2020 brought more blessings than most of us think.
Take Operation Warp Speed.
The experts predicted it could take 2 or more years to come up with a cure for covid. Not so.
By pushing the process, not cutting corners, we actually did it in what some experts say was  6 months, Then politics and a Presidential election got in the way, tge critics say, and delayed it another 60 days.
Now we are expecting millions of our front line and most vulnerable among us to be vaccinated before Jan. 1.
Well-known medical experts such as Drs,. Qanta Ahmed and Nicole Saphier say Operation Warp Speed changed the game and will have an enduring effect on the vaccine making, testing and approval process.
No longer will vaccines take years to develop and win approval – a plus for humanity.
Take the lessons of lockdowns and other official nonsense.
Back when we didn’t know what we were up against, closings seemed a sensible way to halt covid’s spread. Now we know better even if California, New York and elsewhere let strip clubs operate but not churches and restaurants.
 We learn from experience.’\
Take the election votes. We have some vexing problems here, whether you think the election was stolen or not.
Mailing unsolicited ballots must be stopped. Having public officials, not state lawmakers, decide on voting procedures is unconstitutional. This must be reformed. Will it happen next year. Who knows.
But reform is on the table and a majority of us are unhappy enough to push for reforms.
Take the economy in Lexington County and SC . It’s recovering because conservative public officials are not putting us through what many in blue states are enduring.
We have shown a heartening resilience in the face of a lethal disease that we will defeat.
You can count on it.
