Traveling food festival coming to Lexington in June

A food festival making its way through the Carolinas is coming to Lexington County.

Foodees Food and Culture Festival — which has previously put on events in Aiken, Easley and Lake Norman, N.C., and is set to go to Waynesville, N.C., for the first time next month — will take over the Barnyard Flea Market (4414 Augusta Rd. in the Oak Grove area) from June 23 to 25.

Per a release, the festival looks to be more than just a food event.

“It is a journey into the heart and soul of various cultures,” the release states. “Immerse yourself in a vibrant marketplace filled with talented artisans and crafters, showcasing their unique creations and cultural heritage. Explore vibrant displays of handmade jewelry, intricate artwork, and traditional crafts that tell stories of generations past and inspire the imagination.”

But there will be food, with the release promising “culinary delights ... from tantalizing Caribbean dishes to authentic Latin flavors, mouthwatering Gullah cuisine to savory crepes and delectable ice cream creations.”

Beyond the food, the event promises music and activities for all ages.

"At Foodees, we believe that food has the remarkable ability to transcend differences and create connections,” festival co-founder Tricia Croft is quoted. “Through our Food and Culture Festivals, we aim to foster an environment where diversity is celebrated, and community bonds are strengthened.”

Foodees started putting on festivals this year and has thus far put on events in March (Easley), April (Aiken) and May (Lake Norman). The festivals in Lexington and Waynesville are the only others the organizers have thus far announced for 2023. The company also puts out a quarterly Foodees magazine.

According to the festival’s website, foodeesfest.com, tickets are free and can be purchased online.
